A mere idea grows into a concrete plan. Breslau, a city of historical depth and student tradition, looks back on a rich history of student fraternities — not only Corps, but many other kinds of student associations once called Breslau home. It is time to add a new chapter to this history. Together, Corps Viadrina Breslau is to be founded — in Breslau.
The name "Viadrina" was chosen deliberately. It refers to the river Oder and the Oderland region of Silesia, while also carrying forward the memory of the former Jewish student fraternity of the same name.
140,000 students
Conditions in Breslau could hardly be better: around 674,000 residents, of whom roughly 140,000 are students. A broad university landscape spanning humanities, engineering, medicine, natural sciences, economics, music, art history and sport.
On top of that come numerous additional universities of applied sciences.
A lively student scene, countless taverns, cultural venues such as the opera house or the racecourse, and a surrounding countryside reaching from the Zobten mountain to the Giant Mountains and the Bartsch valley all provide an ideal setting. The Oder itself, as a defining feature of the city, offers further space for shared activities.
existing Polish structures
Viadrina aims to build on the traditions of German and Jewish Breslau fraternities as much as on existing Polish structures — and to shape from this a model of cultural, social and cross-generational cooperation.
